Every good move requires preparation. Please take a few minutes to read my recommendations and you will find that your move will go much smoother. This is by no means a comprehensive list. If you have a large move, it makes sense to do a little online research for tips and tricks for packing.
Have boxes, marking pen, bubble wrap, newspaper, packing tape and tissue on hand
Pack boxes so they are full, if boxes are heavy but still have space, fill the top part with stuffed animals, towels or other light but bulky items
Use strong boxes and containers that can be secured tightly
Purchase special boxes for dishes, wardrobe and other special items if possible
Pack audio-video equipment in original boxes. Label cables and tighten transit screws. If removing screws, tape them to the objects they are removed from
Pack books tightly on end in small boxes
Having rope on hand to tie down items in the truck or to the roof of an SUV is not always necessary but can often be helpful
Tip your mover for a job well done. We have no mandatory tipping, however let everyday etiquette be your guide
Avoid loading more than 40 pounds into one box
Label each box and indicate the following (a) Which room (b) If Fragile (c) If it should be loaded last to be unloaded first
Cushion contents with packing material such as bubble wrap, newspaper or tissue. Save room by using towels and blankets to wrap fragile items
Rent packing blankets from your rental truck company or have a good supply of old blankets on hand to prevent wood and other furniture from being scuffed or damaged. We want to take excellent care of your stuff, so help us help you
When possible offer your mover a cold beverage. No matter how hard the move, when you show your mover you care, they are willing to work that much harder for you
